Pirate Token Odds: Is It 1 in 700,000 or 1 in 2,000?

What are the Pirate Token odds?

Nobody outside Epic knows. Epic has never published the Pirate Token drop rate, so nobody can give you the real Fortnite token odds. Two Pirate Token estimates circulate, and they are about 350× apart: roughly 1 in 700,000 per chest, the figure most guides repeat, and roughly 1 in 2,000 per chest, a dataminer's estimate reported by VICE. Every chest is its own Pirate Token roll, and a find for one squad member counts for the whole party. Players also search for it as the Fortnite token or Fortnite shop token, and the game calls it Pirate Shop Access, so Pirate Token odds, Fortnite token odds and Pirate Shop Access odds all mean the same roll.

What are the two Fortnite token drop rate estimates?

The smaller number is the one you'll see everywhere. Insider Gaming put it this way:

"Estimates suggest you have a 1 in 700,000 chance"

— Insider Gaming – Fortnite Pirate Token

Epic itself has only said that every player has the same Pirate Token chance, not what that chance is.

Official Fortnite token rateUnknownNot published. Destructoid says there is "no way of knowing" the exact Fortnite token odds, and dataminer HYPEX says they aren't in the game files.

How the 1 in 2,000 Pirate Token estimate is worked out

  1. About 1 in 100 chests gives a Treasure Hunt reward at all.
  2. About 5–10% of those rewards are Supreme tier; Blortzen leans toward 10%, so roughly 1 in 1,000 chests gives some Supreme reward.
  3. There are two Supreme rewards, the Pirate Token and Gold A$AP Rocky. If they are equally likely, that is about 1 in 2,000 chests for the Pirate Token.

Each step is an estimate, and VICE notes the Pirate Token figure assumes you have neither Supreme reward yet. Epic hasn't confirmed any rate; it has said every player has an equal chance at the Fortnite token (Pirate Shop Access).

What are your Fortnite token odds by play style?

The gap between the two Fortnite token estimates matters more than any farming spot. Each cell shows your chance at 1 in 700,000 / at 1 in 2,000, counting every teammate's chests for duos and squads, because one find unlocks the Pirate Token for the whole party:

Play style1 day7 days30 days
Solo, casual (4 chests × 5 matches a day)<0.01% / 0.995%0.02% / 6.76%0.086% / 25.9%
Solo, regular (8 chests × 10 matches)0.011% / 3.92%0.08% / 24.4%0.342% / 69.9%
Duo, regular (8 chests × 10 matches each)0.023% / 7.69%0.16% / 42.9%0.683% / 90.9%
Squad of 4, regular (8 chests × 10 matches each)0.046% / 14.8%0.319% / 67.4%1.36% / 99.2%
Squad of 4, farming (25 chests × 15 matches each)0.214% / 52.8%1.49% / 99.5%6.23% / >99.99%

What the table shows: at the community estimate, even a farming squad's 30-day Pirate Token chance stays in single digits (6.23%), while at the dataminer estimate a regular squad is all but certain to find the Pirate Token within a month. Which estimate is right decides whether the Pirate Token hunt is a lottery or a grind.

For an even chance at the Fortnite token you'd need about 485,000 chests at 1 in 700,000, or about 1,400 chests at 1 in 2,000. Squads count every teammate's chests because guides report one find unlocks the Pirate Token for the whole party. What do real Pirate Token finds tell us?

Fortnite token finds are common enough that r/FortniteBR moderators started limiting "found it" posts, and they come at very different points in a Fortnite token grind: one player's teammate found the Pirate Token 759 chests in, while one squad posted that they needed more than 4,000 chests each. Scattered results like these are what any random drop looks like, so they can't pin down the real Fortnite token drop rate. They also don't point to a Pirate Token pity system: no guide, Epic post or dataminer mentions one.

What changes your Pirate Token odds, and what doesn't?
